to simon plummer,
in addition to the very detailed message from ian rogers on the 21.4.1999,
i can recall quite a few spastic c.p teenagers with the same syndrome in
our orthopedic clinic. for them the only treatment suggested for the acute
stage, was rest and even immobilization of the knee for two weeks and also
"pain killer" medication. these are mainly boys with a crouch pattern gait
which exert stress on the patella (usualy patella alta). the long term
solution is a proper biomechanical evaluation with some suggestions for
correction of the gait patern (like hamstrings elongation via operation and
maybe orthosis for the ankle joint to prevent the collapse of the tibia
over the foot).
