If he is on a hospital bed that will not lower to an acceptable/safe height
I'd try & get him to a place where you can use an up-down plinth so that
you can be sure he will sit back on the intended surface, not slide onto
the floor/ or involve many people getting straining themselves to get him
back onto the bed ( I know it is a pain getting a plinth up to the ward,
but may be worth it if there is space).
I would suggest 3-4 people in attendance for the initial "stand", to help
getting into position & maintaining it for as long as he can tolerate. Of
course a gait belt or two are a must.
Initially, for safety's sake you may want to consider splinting his leg, so
that his knee can not flex once in standing, although I would always prefer
to try without first to assess his control of the affected side.
I hope that these may be a few practical helpers. Please watch you & your
helpers' backs.
Good luck, from Sally.
