Could they be the "Roman Psalter" and the "Gallican Psalter" texts? The
former continued in use in Italy until the 2nd half of the 16th century,
and after that still at St.Peter's; the "Gallican", Jerome's second,
improved translation (the "Roman" Psalter is generally considered to have
been his earlier, patch-up job), spread in Gaul and then elsewhere already
in the early Middle Ages, often associated with monastic reform, and
finally dominated in Italy in the late 16th century.
