I'm a first year student pursuing a PhD in historical theology at
Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. I have a
patristics professor who insists that, unless our historical work
is based either on a critical edition or on an autograph, our work
is simply not scholarly. Therefore, since Migne's Patrologia
Graeca/Latina are not critical editions as such, they are of
little value. I'm curious as to what other scholars think about
Migne's value.
