Today, 28 March, is the feast of ...
* Guntramnus or Gontran (592)
- king of Burgundy and part of Aquitaine, his character was
not as typically 'stable' as that of most other 'saints':
for example, he divorced one wife, and executed the
unsuccessful physicians of another; still, he did encourage
clerical discipline, and endowed many churches and
monasteries, giving rise to a cult from the time of his
death
* Tutilo (c. 915)
- educated at St Gall, along with Notker Balbulus and
Ratpert; known in his time as an all-round genius in many
fields, he was particularly well known for his artistic
flair (indeed, some works of his still are to be found in
Constance, Metz, St Gall and Mainz)
* Giovanni da Capistrano (1456)
- with Bernardino da Siena, the most famous preacher of his
day; preached throughout Italy and (with an interpreter)
eastern Europe
- actually, his feast until 1890 was celebrated on the
anniversary of his death, 23 October
