Can someone tell us where *Burgbimagistri* is, or rather was in 1580? It
is/was probably near modern Liege/Luttich
The magistrates of that Comitatus wrote an elegant attestation of the death
of Sir Thomas de Hoghton therein, which we are trying to English for his
living descendant (Sir Bernard de H)
I know this is not properly medieval, but the citizens must have called
thgeir city something like this before they woke up on 1 January 1500 (well,
whichever day they thought was 1.1.1500), saying joyfully, `Thank God, the
Middle Ages have ended'
In England we had already celebrated this event in August 1485 (with a
horse, if I recall correctly, standing over a thorn bush - or maybe a
*planta genesta* - on which was hung a crown.
Perhaps.
