This is to inform you that there is a doctoral studentship in innovation
studies vacant at The Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture,
University of Oslo.
Innovation studies is a multi-disciplinary research field which focuses on
how innovations emerge and diffuse (in firms, organisations, and in society
at large), the factors which influences this, and what the consequences
are. Applicants aiming at research focusing on globalisation and
innovation are especially welcome, since investigation into the
relationship between globalisation and innovation is a research field which
is currently given priority at the centre.
The Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture is a newly established
centre resulting from the merger of the former Centre for Technology and
Culture and the unit affiliated to the European Inter-university
Association on Society, Science and Society (ESST). It will as of July,
1999, have a staff of six professors and associate professors, three
administrative staff members, as well as 19 research fellows including the
doctoral students. The centre's research and education covers major parts
of science, technology and innovation-studies.
Within the Norwegian system a doctoral student is employed by the
University, and is expected to contribute 25 percent of the working hours
to teaching or other activities at the University, while the remaining 75
percent are for work in connection with the doctoral dissertation.
Employment will be for a period of maximum 4 years. When evaluating the
applications the description of the applicant's project as well as the
prerequisites of the applicant in order to carry through the project will
be weighted. A prerequisite for applying is that one hold a higher degree
with a major in in social sciences. The following documents should be
enclosed within the application in 4 copies: a 5-10 pages description of
the project (including a progression plan for the project), list of
published and unpublished works, and a curriculum vitae. One copy each of
confirmed copies of diplomas and reference letters should be submitted. The
applicant may in addition be asked to submit one copy of the higher degree
dissertation and other relevant works.
