Subject: request to circulate Notice to members
I am employed by an agency which is funding original research into the area
of work related disability and am seeking knowlledgable and experienced
individuals to serve as expert peer reviewers of our proposals. As such, I
would like to request that the circular that follows be forwarded to you
listserv members. This will prove to be an excellent opportunity for your
members to have input into disability research around the world.
If I need to be a subscriber to the listserv to circulate this, I owuld be
pleased to belong.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

CIRCULAR
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS OF PEER REVIEWERS
In 1996, the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) shifted
its priorities to the prevention of work-related disease and injury, from
its former primary mandate of compensation, all within a framework of
fiscal responsibility. To support its expanded mandate, the WSIB
dramatically enlarged its research program, committed approximately $3.5
million to fund research grants in 1998/99, and will continue funding
research in the near future.
To oversee the process, the WSIB has established the Research Advisory
Council (RAC). It consists of stakeholders appointed from the employer and
worker community, representatives from the research community,
representatives from the Ontario health and safety agencies and the WSIB.
The WSIB RAC invites well-designed proposals in the general areas of
organisation and administration of health and safety research, research on
the design of the workplace environment, and biological and health care
research that will, ultimately, reduce work related injuries and illness
and improve compensation processes.
The WSIB RAC is looking to develop a roster of expert peer reviewers from
acaedemic, scientific and professional areas involved in health and safety
and workers? compensation practice and research. These include experts
from all fields related directly or indirectly to workplace health and
safety, including among others, engineers, occupational hygienists, health
and safety specialists, ergonomists, nurses, physicians, epidemiologists,
rehabilitation specialists, social scientists, legal professionals, etc. .
. Since the WSIB is looking for the best available peer reviewers, please
note that the nominee?s country of origin is not important. For the near
future, the WSIB anticipates having an annual request for proposals.
Therefore, peer reviewers will be asked to review and provide written
comment on no more than 2 proposals within 4 weeks of receipt once a year.
If you would like to be considered for the roster, please contact
[log in to unmask] Please include name, mailing address, contact
telephone numbers, area(s) of specialist knowledge, reviewing experience
and a copy of current curriculum vitae. If you know of someone who might
be appropriate, please contact them and suggest that they forward the
necessary information for the Council?s consideration by e-mail or by
regular mail to:
Research Branch,
Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
8th Floor, 200 Front Street West
Toronto, Ontario M5V 3J1 CANADA
For further information, please telephone (416) 344-6913.
The WSIB is simply seeking nominations at this time. The closing date for
this first call for nominations is April 30 1999. The WSIB Research
Advisory Council will decide the final membership of the roster.
Best Wishes
