Dear all
Usual aplogies if you receive this from various mailbases!
WOMEN AND GEOGRAPHY STUDY GROUP READING WEEKEND
Friday 21 to Sunday 23 MAY 1999
This year's Reading Weekend will be held at Hebden House, part of the
Birchcliffe Centre at Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. The weekend will start
with an evening meal (6 p.m.) on Friday and will be followed by a relaxed
and informal 'getting to know you' session. Throughout the weekend we will
be discussing 5 or 6 contemporary texts/articles drawn from geography,
feminist theory, cultural studies, and works by German feminists in
translation. There will be both small groups for close discussion and open
plenary sessions. The readings have been selected by the WGSG committee
(though other suggestions are welcome). It won't be all work and no play as
Hebden Bridge is in too lovely a part of England not to have Saturday
afternoon free to go for a walk, see the town etc. The weekend will finish
after lunch on Sunday.
The WGSG Reading Weekend has a long history and is usually both hard work
and extremely enjoyable. It's an excellent chance to get to know other
members of the WGSG. This year's event has been arranged in conjunction
with the German Speaking Women and Geography Group and members of this group
will be present. All members of the WGSG are eligible to attend. If you
are not a member but would like to come along, then please contact the
membership secretary, Dr Suzy Reimer, Department of Geography, University of
Hull, Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 7RX, UK, tel. 01482 465353; email:
