The figures quoted for the 'earnings' of the top billionaires always make
for uneasy reading and raise some serious moral issues about the economic
system that most of us buy into to some extent.
A related issue that disturbs me greatly is the tendency for some of the
world's richest to fund international organisations to control the fetility
of the world's poor. An example is David Packard of Hewlett Packard fame. He
died about a year ago leaving 7 billion dollars in a find with directions
that it be used for population control programmes. Ted Turner is another who
appears to be preoccupied with the fertility decisions of poor people.
