It's been a while since I had a French Literature class or studied it on
my own, but I believe that "Sainte" may mean "Blessed" or "Holy" as well
as "Saint," which makes it very likely, as Jim Bugslag suggests, that
not all "Sainte-" place names are named after saints. "Sainte-Joye,"
for example, would probably translate as "Blessed Joy." I missed the
original "Ste Fripette" inquiry, but might this apply?
