Subject: SCOTIA WINS LOTTERY APPROVAL

The School of Information and Media at The Robert Gordon
University, Aberdeen is the lead partner in a successful bid by the
SCOTIA Consortium to become approved by the New
Opportunities Fund as a provider of training in Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) skills for school librarians in
Scotland. Led by Glasgow University’s Faculty of Education, the
Consortium has also become an approved ICT trainer for teachers.
The New Opportunities Fund has been established by the government
as a new national distributor of National Lottery funds, and SCOTIA
will be working in partnership with the Fund to deliver the training
required by Scotland’s local authorities.

SCOTIA (SCOttish Teaching in the Information Age) comprises The
Robert Gordon University, Glasgow University, Paisley University,
Queen Margaret University College (Department of Communication
and Information Studies), St Andrew’s College, and Stirling
University. The government has allocated £22 million from the
National Lottery to the New Opportunities Fund for ICT training in
Scotland over the next 3 years. This will ensure that all school
librarians and teachers are trained to work with the resources for
teaching available on the National Grid for Learning, which will link all
schools to the Internet and the World Wide Web.
