Some news about the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme

‘Call for Proposals’ page.
There will be a special Call for Proposals for a limited number of
priorities in May. Details will appear in the BMJ, Nursing Times,
Research Fortnightly, Official Journal of the European Communities
(OJEC) and on the HTA web site. In the meantime this page links to a
‘how the commissioning process works’ document.

Since the last email to this discussion group HTA have published the
following monographs bringing the total published so far to 36:
'Postoperative analgesia and vomiting, with special reference to
day-case surgery: a systematic review’ (McQuay) Volume 2, number 12.
'Systematic review of endoscopic ultrasound in gastro-oesophageal
cancer’ (Harris) Volume 2, number 18.
'Primary total hip replacement surgery: a systematic review of
outcomes and modelling of cost-effectiveness associated with
different prostheses' (Fitzpatrick) Volume 2, number 20.
Please note that ‘Systematic reviews of trials and other studies
(SROTOS)’ (Sutton) Volume 2, number 19, has been delayed but should
be published within the next few weeks.
'Informed decision making: an annotated bibliography and systematic
review' (Bekker) Volume 3, number 1.
'Handling uncertainty when performing economic evaluation of
healthcare interventions' (Briggs) Volume 3, number 2.
'The role of expectancies in the placebo effect and their use in the
