In all seriousness, can I suggest that anyone who wants to know more about
this talk to their local GP VTS Course Organiser, and perhaps arrange to spend
some time with GPs.
For years, sometimes inadvertently, GPs have developed exactly these skills.
You get to know the phrases to use (Medical School words, which patients
seldom use, like "crushing")(as opposed to real phrases, like "absolute
agony")(a phrase more often used by someone else calling on the patients
behalf!).
The junior Dr handover months of February and August are "nightmare" times
("oh, we don't take haematemesis, it's the Surgeons .... I think")("are you
sure it's appendicitis?").
The art of convincing someone else of the seriousness of your patient's
illness is an old one, and worth pursuing.
