Last year on the list I described a simple method of looking after a femur
fracture without a formal traction splint, using a vacuum mat. I have
since seen this method used and have found it remarkable how good it is for
patient comfort. Accoridng to the French doctors the morbidity is also
much less than the norm. It is becoming the universal method for pisteurs
(ski patrollers) in France. I enclose a picture from the French ski patrol
manual as file attachment. I have some slides of the method being taught
to British ski patrollers (of which I am one also) by Cyril Andre of the
Courcheval ski patrol. I hope the file attachment opens ok and welcome the
opinion of the list on this method.
