Hi,
My name's James Stewart and I'm in the second year of A-levels in East
Sussex. A friend pointed me to mailbase when he heard about some
questions I had relating to my history a-level personal study, for which
I'm investigating the religious and political sides to the decision
at the Synod of Whitby.
As well as studying (hard ;) for my A-levels I am very involved in
various music-related things, such as the new FreeState festival
http://www.freestate.org.uk - for whom I will soon be making a better
website (I didn't do the current one, honest) and I am on the music
committee. I also spend a lot of time running my "Britlinks" website
which is a resource centre for Christians involved in British music,
and the web design business that I'm running alongside that.
One problem I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight into
came when reading "The Age Of Bede" and more precisely D H Farmer's
translation of Bede's "The Abbots of Wearmouth and Jarrow". In chapter
2 of this work it appears that sub-king Alchfrid of Deira is prevented
from going to Rome by his father (King Oswy), but in his introduction
Farmer says that Alchfrid went to Rome at more or less the same time
as this would appear to have been.
Thanks. James.
