The novelist that springs to mind is Leonardo Sciascia (1921 - 1989).
Il giorno della civetta has probably been translated into English, it has
certainly been made into a film, the details of which I don't have to hand.
L'affare Moro and La scomparsa di Marjorana have both been translated and
were available in a single volume (1991) translated by Sacha Rabinovitch
for Paladin, a division of the Collins Publishing Group.
