Introduction to US Federal Government Publications: a Hidden Treasure
23 February 1999
A practical hands-on training workshop
The US Federal Government produces about 50,000 documents a year
covering a kaleidoscope of socio-economic issues ranging from social
problems such as family breakdown and crime to economic questions of
internal and external trade, productivity and sustainable development.
Information is available not only about the US but also about current
world problems such as international terrorism. It is produced as
statistical series, policy documents, research reports and
congressional hearings in both hard copy and electronic form.
But finding out what exists and how to access it can be daunting. This
new one-day course is designed to introduce this treasure house of
knowledge to information professionals. The course is aimed at
beginners, although more experienced searchers will find it a valuable
way to update their knowledge.
The course is presented by six speakers with specialist skills in a
particular field of US government information. During the day speakers
will be on hand to answer any questions and queries from participants.
