JOB DESCRIPTION
Title : HEAD OF INFORMATION SERVICES
Responsible to : Principal
Current Salary Scale : 27,000 - 32,000 pounds sterling
Main Purpose of Job
To provide an integrated library and information service for the Academy in
support of the Academy's Mission and strategic planning
The Academy wishes to integrate its C&IT services (including MIS), its
library service, and its learning resources. The post of Head of
Information Services is a new one, and reflects the Academy's wish to
recruit an information professional who can draw these strands of activity
together. Candidates for this post will need to demonstrate:
* a comprehensive understanding of these areas
* a track record in their integration
* ability to develop the Academy's information strategy
* ability to develop the specialist nature of the Academy's library
covering printed, audio visual, electronic and other media, specifically
including specialist collections and archive material
* a track record in the management of rapid change, with particular
emphasis on human resource management
* a knowledge of, and empathy for, the information needs of performing arts
staff and students
Duties
* development/implementation/maintenance of an information strategy for the
Academy in liaison with the Academy's Senior Management
* enhancement of the specialist nature of library provision within the
Academy covering printed, audio visual, electronic and other media, specifically
including specialist collections and archive material
* development of the present Library and IT facilities as key learning
resources
* supervision/management/development of Library and IT Staff
* provision of information and library services to all user groups within
the Academy
* provision of advice to the Academy's Senior Management Team on IT
Strategy and support for academic, management and administration systems
and where appropriate supervising their implementation
* responsibility for the obligations of the legislation for Copyright and
Intellectual Property Acts
* management of relevant budgets in accordance with Academy procedures
* participation in the general work of the Academy through membership of
appropriate committees; in particular assuming a leading role in the
Learning Resources Committee
* participation in the Academy's Y2K project team
* liaison with external bodies and individuals locally, nationally and
internationally, in making effective use of information resources
* any such other reasonable duties as may be required by the Principal
