This is also my experience in schools in the US, as well as in the
community "service" system for persons with labels there. Unfortunately,
many researchers also fall into the same trap (which is not to say that
there aren't many educators, providers, and researchers working to climb
out of this box). Kliewer's 1998 book _Schooling children with down
syndrome_ addresses these issues well, I think.
