Series Description:
-------------------
This series concentrates on computational models and theories of
collections of intelligent, autonomous agents (technical, natural, or
both) and the interactions occurring therein. Dependent on the research
and application focus, computer-based realizations of such collections
are referred to as multiagent systems, artificial societies, or
simulated organizations. The interest in these realizations is inter-
national and multi-disciplinary, and has grown rapidly in the past
decade. Today multiagent systems, artificial societies and simulated
organizations play an increasingly important role in the specification,
design, and implementation of modern, distributed computing and
information environments in which computers interact more as
``individuals'' rather than just ``parts,'' and in the analysis of
aggregates of humans or other animals that range from small teams to
large ecosystems or economies.
Fields to which this series is of particular relevance are computer
science, artificial intelligence, engineering, computer supported
cooperative work, groupware, game theory, sociology, economics, manage-
ment and organization science, ethology, psychology, linguistics, and
philosophy. Topics covered by this series include, for instance,
- cooperation and competition
- coordination and collaboration
- communication protocols and languages
- negotiation, consensus development, and conflict
detection and resolution
- intelligent cognitive activities jointly realized
by multiple agents (e.g., distributed problem solving,
planning, learning, and decision making)
- emergent and organizational intelligence
- organizational structuring and behavior
- decentralized control and management
- market mechanisms and economic systems
- dynamics of societies and social processes
- emergence of social and political structures
The series will comprise
- textbooks and textbook-like volumes
- tutorials and state-of-the-art surveys
- readings books and excellently composed anthologies
- research and application-oriented monographs
Publication Criteria:
---------------------
Contributions are invited from the broad range of fields mentioned
above, and works that obviously contribute to progress in the theory
and practice of multiagent systems, artificial societies, and simulated
organizations are particularly welcome.
Primary evaluation criteria for publication in this series are quality,
relevance, coherence, actuality, and a clear focus on computational
aspects and issues of high-level interaction among complex (intelli-
gent, autonomous) entities.
Ideally a book proposal provides the following information: provisional
title; brief summary (up to one page); provisional table of contents
with brief description of the individual parts (up to five pages);
target audience; book level and prior knowledge required for under-
standing the text; list of competitive books; and full contact address
of the proposer(s). Any other details that characterize the book
project are also welcome.
