forms for Institute of Physics grants. Please note that we must
receive printed application forms. We require a signed and dated
application and so cannot accept applications electronically
Grants for National Science Week 2000
Create a big bang in 2000! The Institute of Physics is offering
grants to promote physics to the public. Any type of physics-based
activity is eligible. The grant scheme will primarily support events
planned for National Science Week, 17-26 March 2000. However
applications will be accepted for events that are planned to take
place at other times in 2000.
Amount of grant awarded
Grants awarded will normally be no more than 500 pounds.
Deadline for applications
Grant forms should be returned by 31 December 1999.
Decisions will be made and grants issued by the end of January 2000.
Please return your application AS A PRINT-OUT to:

Support for National Science Week 2000
The Institute of Physics is once again fully supporting the national
week of science, and is actively encouraging its members and others
to communicate exciting aspects and applications of physics to a
wider audience, beyond the classroom and workplace.
Grants to Promote Physics replaces the Institute's previous SET grant
scheme. Although the new scheme will primarily support activities to
be held in National Science Week (17-26 March), grants will also be
awarded for events that are planned to take place at other times in
2000.
Additional Information
1. Completion of application
Please provide all the information requested. Indicate the amount of
grant required, and state the purpose for which the money will be
used e.g. hire of equipment. Incomplete applications will NOT be
considered. DO NOT send any supplementary material with this
application.
2. Priority of grants
Any type of physics-based event is eligible for a grant. Priority of
grants will be given to members, schools, companies and others
affiliated to the Institute, also to events that are aimed at the
general public or mixed audiences, rather than just schoolchildren.
The Institute is keen to develop links with scientific and
non-scientific organisations.
3. Previous applicants
Previous recipients of grants are welcome to apply for funding in
2000, but the Institute will look for development of the idea or
activity in the new application.
4. Evaluation and feedback
Feedback forms will be sent to all those that receive grants. Event
evaluation and feedback can be of enormous benefit both to the
organisers and to those who provide support. Please keep in mind the
questions asked in the feedback form whilst planning your event.
5. Recognition of the Institute of Physics funding
Recipients of grants are required to acknowledge the Institute of
Physics sponsorship on all of their promotional leaflets. Please
include copies of promotional material and any press cuttings of your
event with your feedback form.
6. National Science Week 2000 - national programme
If you are planning for your event to be held during National Science
Week 2000 you may wish your event details to be included in the
British Association's national programme. For a programme entry
form, contact the National Science Week Officer, British Association
for the Advancement of Science, 23 Savile Row, London, W1X 2NB.
Tel: 0171 973 3074 Fax: 0171 973 3051 Web-site: www.britassoc.org.uk.
They are also able to provide official National Science Week 2000
stationery and logos.
