A number of places are still available on the Anglo-German Conference
of the German Studies Library Group and the Thueringer Universitaets-
und Landesbibliothek.
The conference will take place in Jena from 24-28 August 1999 and
focuses on the political and social affairs of Thuringia, research in
German language and literature, and library management. The full
programme and a booking form which can be printed off are at the
German Studies Library Group home page under Activities:
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/library/gslg/home.htm
Due to very generous support from the British Council and the
Goethe-Institut, the costs of the conference have been kept very low.
The conference fee (20 pounds) covers bed and breakfast for 4 nights
and transport to Weimar on 26 August. The organisers in Jena
estimate that the cost of other meals during the conference will be
around DM 160,- . (Delegates are responsible for making their own
travel arrangements to and from the conference.)
If you would like to attend the conference, please complete the
booking form and send it to me as soon as possible to be sure of a
place, but at the latest by Friday, 16 July 1999.
Please note that a good proportion of the conference will be in
German so it is essential that participants have good enough German
to understand the papers and interact with German delegates.
With its wide-ranging programme and the opportunity to meet German
colleagues from the new Bundeslaender, the conference promises to be
a most stimulating and rewarding few day. Should you need any
further information, please contact me.
