The GIS Research Centre at the University of Glamorgan has a number of
vacancies for those interested in post-graduate study for the award of a
PhD.
In particular, we are looking to recruit in the following areas:
* Digital terrain modelling (algorithms, data structures, topographic
modelling, applications such as hydrological modelling, visibility analysis,
radio field planning, LiDAR applications, etc.);
* Spatial decision support systems (expert systems, e.g. for site
selection);
* Spatial analysis of violent crime.
* Spatial data compression, particularly for raster data;
Other research areas will be considered, provided they fit into the Research
Centre's "portfolio", but should have a computing flavour. For further
information about the Research Centre, refer to our web pages:
http://www.comp.glam.ac.uk/research/gis/
In each case, it is essential that the candidate has programming experience
and should ideally be familiar with using a GIS, such as ArcView.
Due to the nature of our funding, these positions are only available to UK
and EU residents. In return, we offer the following remuneration per year,
for a maximum of 3 years:
* research grant / bursary (currently approx. £6,500 p.a. tax-free),
plus
* the cost of fees (approx. £1,500 p.a.), plus
* teaching / tutoring work (£25.62 per hour) for up to 6 hours a week
during term time, subject to the candidate's experience, plus an additional
stipend for other duties.
