Two PhD Studentships - with a strong GIS theme
================================================

opportunities to the attention of prospective applicants
Merseyside Fire Brigade is funding a 3-year PhD Studentship in Fire Safety
available from September to research into innovative forms of data analysis
and the use of geographical information systems (GIS) in implementing,
monitoring and evaluating fire safety strategies and fire education
programmes.
Merseytravel (Merseyside PTA/PTE) is funding a 3-year PhD Studentship
available from September to research methods of achieving greater
Personal Security of Public Transport Users. Building on Travel Safe
crime and disorder prevention initiative projects, a GIS-based framework
will be developed for mapping concentrations of incidents and collating
operational intelligence.
In both cases a good honours graduate in geography, planning or a related
discipline is required who has proficiency in analytical methods and strong
inter-personal skills. Familiarity with GIS would be an advantage.
