Friends of the Earth is the UK's most influential pressure group which
campaigns at an international, national and local level. The
Environmental Data Unit,(EDU)plays a pivotal and highly visible role in
gathering, analysing, verifying and disseminating data to empower
citizen action - such as Factory Watch - our directory of polluting
factories (www.foe.co.uk/factory watch).
As Manager, you will effectively develop and exploit our GIS, relational
database and Internet technologies to acquire, manage and present
accurate, relevant environmental data. This will be used in support of
diverse, hard-hitting and far-reaching environmental campaigns. You will
assume key responsibility for managing, motivating and developing unit
staff and skilled volunteers, and will have proven project management
experience.
At least two years' experience of GIS and RDBMS, ideally ARC/INFO,
Are/View and Oracle is essential, with practical experience of data
management. Backed by knowledge of UNIX, SQL and Java, you are a
confident communicator with string people management skills. You should
also be highly motivated by the opportunity to transform raw
environmental data into empowering public information.
