Dear GPT potential users,
You can obtain as many copies as you want from the anonymous ftp server
at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona
The file hierarchy is:
ftp://ftp.uab.es/pub/mac/GPT/
Following we describe two examples on how to obtain the Mac files:
-Using the Netscape browser:
1) a) Put the address: ftp://ftp.uab.es/ as the URL Location.
b)Click on the successive folders pub/ mac/ and GPT/
or
2) a) Put the address:
http://ichor.geo.ucalgary.ca/~tmg/Research/thermo_links.html
b) Click the highlighted GPT under the "Metamorphic Petrology
section".
Note: This adress corresponds to T. Gordon´s (U. of Calgary, Canada) web
page entitled
"Software and Data forThermodynamics and Phase Equilibrium Calculations
in Geology"
-Using Fetch:
a) Do Open Connection (or control+O)
b)Put
in Host: ftp.uab.es
in user ID: anonymous
in Password:
in Directory: /pub/mac/GPT
Then select the only file contained in the directory and press Get File.
Transfer will work either in automatic mode or in Text (Ascii) mode.
-Using Anarchie
a) Do the Get.. command in the ftp menu.
b) Write
in Machine: ftp.uab.es
in Path: /pub/mac/GPT
GPT.sea.hqx is a binnex 4.0 file and once imported must be decoded to
obtain GPT.sea
which is an autoextractor file created with CompactPro. The GPT folder
can be obtained just
double-clicking on the autoextractor file.
-In case either of these possibilities are not available or don’t work
for you, then send us your e-mail address
and we will send you the hqx file. Also we will try to answer any
question you have related to the use of GPT.
Please Remember: The best configuration for running the spreadsheet is a
PowerMac and Excel 4.0.
The spreadsheet works also on Excel 5.0 but it gets much slower.
We have done a few trials running GPT using Excel on a PC and it seems
to work perfectly, althoug
PC users should better not try to recover the hqx file from the ftp at
UAB since the autoextractor file contained
in it is in a Mac Format. Alternatively PC users should require us to
send them the files attached to e-mail.
GPT is free of charge, although if you like it and use it on your work,
we will be grateful if you acknowledge
the reference of our paper in Computers & Geosciences:
Joan Reche & Francisco J. Martinez, 1996. GPT: An Excel Spreadsheet for
thermobarometric calculations in metapelitic rocks.
Computers & Geosciences Vol.22, No. 7, pp. 775-784.
Also we would like to receive information about any kind of bugs or
problems that users may experience using the GPT
spreadsheets.
Thank you very much for your interest in GPT.
