Further to Richard Wiltshire of Sheffield's point:
Or are mixed media more often library/special collections material than archive material in the true sense? Even when held in a record office? Do archival repositories describe eg magnetic media with painstaking regard to their provenance and original order, or make the decision that this is actually not very important in this case and list them in alphabetical order of title? I believe I'd choose the latter, by the way, with the various videos I have - but then they probably have all been sundered from their original context in any case. This approach does however beg the question of why is an archivist using archival tools to do badly what could be done better by a librarian/library cataloguer using library tools.
Sarah
PS I often assume that, when someone asks a question on this list and no response is posted, that he/she has been inundated with helpful personal responses, as often happens to me. Obviously this is not universal. Bad luck, Richard! sjaf
