Perhaps a little "flaming" is due here. While informing subscribers of public courses and other events which foster professional development is legitimate - even where a fee is involved - marketing "in house" training business is not. It is overtly commercial and has no place on the list.serv.
If others, like ourselves, who earn a living in the consultancy/training field started to advertise our wares in this way, the mailing list would lose its intended open character to the detriment of all subscribers. Which is why we subscribe individually rather than as a corporate entity.

Subject: BASTD update
The first Introductory Course on 28th October 1999 is now fully subscribed.
A further course is planned for 3rd of February 2000 and more details will
be posted later. In the meantime we are happy to receive enquiries and to
add names to our reserve list.
Don't forget that we also offer customised in-house training for those
organisations that would prefer a more tailored approach to training their
employees. It is possible to commission an on-site day along the lines of
the Introductory Course, or substituting any of a variety of sessions. The
course directors work closely with the organisation's representative to
ensure that the day meets their needs, including as appropriate guest
speakers. Alternative sessions may include:
? Audio-visual material: storage and preservation, description, reference
? Electronic records: ensuring "recordness", preservation, reference
? Disaster planning: how to develop a disaster plan
? Vital records: mapping out a vital records programme
? Standards for archives and records management: a survey of the main
relevent standards
? Digitisation and microform: how to select and implement surrogate media
? Legal issues: legislation covering archives and records
? Thesaurae for archives and records management: when to use, how to develop
and implement
? Websites and the internet: what archivists and records managers need to
know about the internet
