A good many people have contacted me asking to extend the
deadline for this, so I'm sending our Information Sheet out
with a new, much more generous deadline. I'd be very
grateful if you would pass the new information on. With
thanks, NDBS.
Postgraduate Research Opportunity
Images of Alterity in Nineteenth-Century German and
European Literature
The University of Liverpool offers a Postgraduate Research
Studentship tenable from the beginning of the academic year
1999-2000 for three years in the Department of German. The
Studentship covers fees and maintenance (£6455 p.a.).
It is intended that the successful candidate will
pursue research in the broad field of alterity studies in
German and other European literatures in the nineteenth
century. The project will probably have a strong focus on
the representation of "Gypsy" and other ethnic communities
(Jewish, African, etc). The University of Liverpool Library
possesses a distinguished Gypsy Archive.
The Department of German at Liverpool has a strong
research record at both postgraduate and postdoctoral
level. More information about the Department can be found
on the website http://www.liv.ac.uk/german/
Interested parties should contact Professor Nicholas Saul
in the first instance at 00 44 0151-794 2351/2 or
