DESCRIPTION OF THE CONFERENCE
The conference is based on keynote lectures, followed by plenary discussion. Next to the
keynote lectures, the conference will rely extensively on panel discussions, where both the
panelists and the participants can refer to specific case studies. Participants are encouraged
to submit contributions as “working documents" of the conference, but no formal oral
presentations are foreseen. There will be opportunities to display posters. Likewise,
professional facilitators are invited to join the poster exhibition with their exponates
demonstrating their techniques and services (mini-exhibition). Deadline for submission of
working documents (up to maximum 8 pages), abstract of posters (one page) and application
for mini-exhibition is 1 May, 1999.
Working materials will be copied and distributed among the participants of the
conference just as the lecture texts will be made available. The Conference Committee retains
the right to decide which contributions will be included in the post-conference publication.
The Conference is organized along the following main sessions:
-Participatory processes in transboundary river basin management.
-Public involvement in river basin management planning.
-Public involvement in the decision processes: planning, realization, operation.
-Tools and methods of public participation: a perspective for the future.
A half-day-long excursion will be organized to meet participants of public participation
(PP) processes at a close-by location (Szentendre Island).
It is intended that PPWM Conference will be interlinked with the World Conference on
Science taking place in the same time in Hungary, reflecting to its declarations and action
programme.
