The 6th Biennial Conference of the Australian Society of the History
of Medicine is being held from 7-10th July in Sydney, Australia. The
program covers 4 days with over 100 papers and a variety of
associated actvities. There are five conference themes with the
following speakers providing the keynote addresses:
* Medical History from the Viewpoint of the Historian and the Health
Professional (Keynote Speaker: Professor John Burnham, Ohio State
University);
* Health, Medicine and Society at the Turn of the Century (Keynote
Speaker: Professor Christopher Maggs, Univesity of Wales)
* Public History and the History of Medicine (Keynote Speakers:
Drs Victorian Harden and Caroline Hannaway, US National Institutes of
Health/DeWitt Stetten, Jr., Museum of Medical Research/ NIH History
Office, USA)
* Art, Artefacts and Instruments, Pictorial Representations and
Material Objects in the History of Health and Medicine (Keynote
Speaker: Ms Megan Hicks, Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Australia)
* Medicine and Cultures (Keynote Speaker: Professor Warwick Anderson,
University of Melbourne, Australia).
The Conference attracts a great diversity of people interested in the
history of medicine and health, the health professions, and the
institutions and individuals involved in health care delivery.
