Dear Robert,

Did you seem my earlier email about segmentation faults Sun/matlab/spm99?
I've appended it. Be interested to know if that was the problem,
Matthew
------------------------------------
As a few people seem to be having similar problems to me, here's the problem
I ran into, and a fix.
On the two setups of matlab on solaris that I have access to, a very bizarre
crash occurs which I finally tracked down to the following:
When displaying Helvetica text, in italics, with a figure doing zbuffer
rendering, there is a segmentation fault.
If you try the following code, in matlab:
figure('Renderer','zbuffer');
text(0.5, 0.5, 'Test','FontName','Helvetica', 'FontAngle', 'italic');
and get a segmentation violation, you've got the same problem as me.
Mathworks could not reproduce this, and it doesn't happen at the FIL
apparently. For me, the same crash occurs for matlab 5.2 and 5.3.
If you've got this problem, the simplest way round it is to disable
all use of the Helvetica font, by a single line edit to spm_platform.m.
Replace line 234 of spm_platform.m:
SPM_PLATFORM.font.helvetica = 'Helvetica';
with
SPM_PLATFORM.font.helvetica = 'Times';
If this works for anyone, could they let me know, so I can get back to
Mathworks if necessary...
