HEALTH IMPACT ASSESSMENT TRAINING COURSE
Liverpool, July 12th-16th 1999
Organised by Merseyside HIA Training Consortium
Health impact assessment (HIA) is currently the focus of
considerable national interest, due to the intention of the
Government to apply HIA to relevant areas of public policy
at both national and local levels. In November 1998 the
first UK health impact assessment conference was held in
Liverpool; the second conference will take place in October
1999.
This course is aimed at all those whose current and future
work is likely to require an understanding of the theory
and practice of health impact assessment, at either policy
or implementation level. We expect that it will be of
interest to practitioners in
* local government
* the health service
* government agencies
* the voluntary sector
* higher education
* business
who are working in the fields of
* public health

* environmental issues
* regeneration
* sustainability

* planning
The course will be task-based and participatory. It will be
led by members of the Merseyside Health Impact Assessment
Training Consortium, which has pioneered the development of
HIA in the UK. The Consortium includes the University of
Liverpool, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Liverpool
John Moores University, and the four Merseyside health
authorities (Liverpool, St Helens & Knowsley, Sefton and
