If you will allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jenny Gristock. I'm
an academic researcher at SPRU in the University of Sussex.
My research has put forward a new framework, organisational virtuality,
which can describe the many ways in which the possibilities for
organising activities across space, time and organisational communities
have been extended. Using the framework, the virtualness of different
organisational forms- the extent to which people who work 'together',
yet separated by geographical, temporal and communal barriers- can be
compared relative to one another.

I also carry out PUS activities in a very practical way, through my
weekly science columns in the South Wales Evening Post and the Bristol
Evening Post. So if you have news for me, please let me know. I'm always
desperate for stories on Monday and Tuesday! I have also written for The
Guardian and the Times Higher.
I have some science writing pages at:

If you look for 'Science Writing Resources" there are some useful links
to science in the Media and also some academic newsletters which may be
of interest.
I forced myself to learn HTML a few months ago. I wanted to participate
in a conference, and the only way to contribute was by presenting a
paper in HTML. Thankfully, at the time, I had no idea that Word 97 can
do this virtually automatically, so I taught myself from scratch (I'm no
expert, and I have much to learn, but it is a very useful skill to have,
and I'm glad I did it).
I even started putting the Wellcome Trust PUS publication list into html
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/Users/prpk1/pus.html
But I've been rather busy of late, (thesis to write!) so the latest
additions aren't there yet.

Public Understanding of Science will be the focus of debate here at SPRU
when Jane Gregory comes to give a SPRU seminar on Friday about
popularisation and the Big Bang.
12th Feb Jane Gregory, ‘Holding it all Together: Popularisation
in the
Dept. of Science & Technology Studies, Big Bang/Steady State
Debate’
University College, London.
If you'd like to know more about SPRU seminars, how to get there and
what happens afterwards, have a look at this page:
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/Users/prpk1/directions.html#todo
Since we don't have a big enough room at SPRU, the Friday seminars are
in EDB Room 121 (Lecture theatre)
You can see the entrance to this building at:
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/Units/CCE/virtual/tcce.htm
I've put that link there as a visual reminder that the seminar is not in
the SPRU building!
My research has much to do with innovation, technology strategy and the
internet. But I was originally trained as a Materials Engineer at the
University of Wales Swansea.
Oh, and if you do visit my web pages, take a look at the UEA sunclock!
