This job's a science in itself
The Glasgow Science Centre, Scotland
Director of Operations c. £40,000
Science
With its first phase opening in October 2000, the Glasgow Science Centre is
a showpiece development on the banks of the Clyde. Through our 100-metre
high Wing Tower, Exhibits Building and the 350-seater IMAX theatre, our
visitors will discover their world - and how it works.
In fact, the £75 million science and technology exhibition and campus is the
largest of its kind in the UK - with landmark buildings reshaping the
Glasgow skyline.
The day-to-day management of the centre - in a manner consistent with its
mission statement and its financial obligations - will require a special
kind of person. In turn, you'll enjoy a wide remit - from managing the
various facilities and their programmes, to negotiating with external
suppliers and contractors.
Put simply, it's about ensuring 600,000 people every year enjoy the ultimate
visitor experience. We're looking for someone with senior experience in all
aspects of operations, facilities management and customer service - ideally
from start-up to opening and beyond - someone with a sound knowledge of
people, budgets and resource management, as well as an innovative approach.
It's a challenging role - but the rewards will reflect this. In addition to
the competitive salary offered, you'll be part of the regeneration of the
southern banks of the Clyde - personally influencing the face of Glasgow.
