I have just registered for the "UK public understanding of science"
mailing list. I found out about this list in "Wellcome News".
I am an NHS Clinical Scientist working in a laboratory supporting
organ transplantation in the NW of England. I have 20 years
experience and have been a member of the DoH Unrelated Live Transplant
Regulatory Authority (ULTRA) for 9 years. My interest in
transplantation ethics has shown me that this clinical field touches
on most ethical issues: shortage of resources, medical innovation,
equity of access to servies, clinical practice standards etc.
I aim to increase my interest in these issues and to relate them to
the public. I will be speaking at the NW Kidney Patients Association
meeting in Blackpool on Sunday 21 February 1999. Also I am a member
of the organising committee for the British Society for
Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics congress in September 2000 to be
held in Manchester.
Does anyone else share my interest or would anyone like to discuss
these issues with me?
