Hello,
I am a medical physicist, working in nuclear medicine, at the Royal
Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne. I have given various talks
on medical physics to students (of both the school and university
varieties), and also teach Environmentalism at the University of
Newcastle Centre for Lifelong Learning.
I am organising a science and film link with the Tyneside Cinema,
in Newcastle, as a member of the British Association for the
Advancement of Science, Northumbria Branch. The first event is on the
9th of March, at 6:15 pm or so, a showing of the film GATTACA, with
an introduction by a lecturer from the Department of Human Genetics,
followed by a discussion.
The education officer at the cinema is keen to organise more, which
is where you come in. I need people who are prepared to speak about
some aspect of science, related to a film, to a general
audience. If you have a favorite film which you feel you could say
something about, or if you are prepared to speak at new films, then
I'd like to hear from you. The time-scale can be fairly short between
finding out about a film coming up, and the program going to press,
so any offers would be greatly appreciated. We have various ideas of
things which we could put on - for example to do with time travel,
and genetic engineering - but any ideas are welcome.
David Hall.
