At the FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics in Amsterdam (The
Netherlands) a program is under way to develop and apply femtosecond XUV
and x-ray sources. This program includes the generation and
ulitilisation of High Harmonic radiation in femtosecond pump-probe
experiments, and the development of sub-picosecond x-ray pulses through
excitation of clusters and microscopic droplets with a Terawatt
femtosecond laser. If x-ray pulses with a duration on the order of 100
femtoseconds can be achieved in the laboratory, structural changes such
as the making and breaking of chemical bonds can be followed in real
time using time-resolved x-ray diffraction and absorption. For more
information please see our website:

We currently have a number of new openings both at the graduate student
and postdoctoral level. Interested candidates are hereby invited to send
a curriculum vitae, list of publications, and the names of two referees
to the address below.
