Dear colleagues,
first annoucement of a new EURESCO / EuroCconference:

****Centre de Physique des Houches, France, 13-18 May 2000*****
***************************************************************
Chairman: Charles Desfrancois (Paris-Nord, France)
Vice-Chairman: Rainer Weinkauf (Duesseldorf, Germany)
Scientific: Michael T. Bowers (Santa Barbara, USA)
Committee Bernhard Brutschy (Frankfurt, Germany)
Pavel Hobza (Prague, Czech Rep.)
Joshua Jortner (Tel Aviv, Israel)
Guido Maes (Leuven, Belgium)
Philippe Millie (Saclay, France)
Michael D. Sevilla (Rochester, USA)
Jean-Pierre Schermann (Paris-Nord, France)
SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE:
This conference will be the first of a new series which aims to promote and
to energise this new interdisciplinary field of science by bringing
together researchers and young scientists active in different disciplines:
molecular/chemical physics, quantum chemistry/molecular dynamics, and
molecular biophysics/biochemistry. The main goal of this meeting is to
explore which experimental and theoretical problems can be best addressed
with the help of gas-phase techniques and what is their relevance to
biomolecular modelling and biology. Topics to be covered include: gas-phase
versus condensed-phase studies of biomolecular interactions; experimental
and theoretical determination of structures and energetics of small and
large biomolecular species; advanced mass spectrometry and analytical /
medical applications. Lectures will have both an educational, open-minded
and prospective character and a special young researchers session will be
devoted to the presentation of novel techniques relevant to future studies.
Poster abstracts and oral contributions to this junior session should be
submitted with the application.
SPEAKERS WILL PROVISIONALLY INCLUDE:
J. Jortner (U. Tel Aviv, Israel)
E.W. Schlag (T.U. Muenchen, Germany)
E. Westhof (U. Strasbourg, France)
M.F. Jarrold (Northwestern U., USA)

GRANTS TO YOUNG RESEARCHERS:
A number of grants covering the twin room Conference Fee (EUR 640) and
possibly some travel costs will be available from the High Level Scientific
Conferences Activity of the European Commission, for young researchers (35
or under) who are nationals of a Member State of the European Union or of
an Associated State. Please, advertise for this.
CONFERENCE SITE:
The conference will take place at the Centre de Physique des Houches, at an
altitude of 1150m, in the Chamonix valley of the French Alps and in front
of the Mont Blanc (4807m). It can be reach either by plane (via Geneva and
group transportation) or by train (via Saint-Gervais and Les Houches).
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL Y2k
DURING WHICH WE HOPE TO SEE YOU IN FRONT OF THE MONT-BLANC
