SCHOOL OF CHEMISTRY, UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL, UK
Ph.D. Studentships
The Molecular Science Group has been very successful in obtaining
support for new Ph.D. studentships to start on 1 October 1999. We
welcome applications for, and/or enquiries about, any of the following
vacancies:
Spectroscopic studies of the gas phase chemistry involved in Diamond
Chemical Vapour Deposition.
Supervisor: Prof. M.N.R. Ashfold, Industrial CASE, with De Beers
Industrial Diamond Division (UK) Ltd.
Imaging the Photofragmentation of Molecular Ions.
Supervisor: Prof. M.N.R. Ashfold, EPSRC Project Studentship.
A Diode Laser based Cavity Ring-Down Spectrometer for Ultrasensitive
Trace Gas Detection.
Supervisor: Dr. A.J. Orr-Ewing, EPSRC Project Studentship
Probing Diamond Deposition Plasmas using CW Cavity Ring-Down
Spectroscopy.
Supervisor: Dr. A.J. Orr-Ewing, EPSRC Project Studentship
Quantum-State Resolved Reactive Scattering.
Supervisor: Dr. A.J. Orr-Ewing, EPSRC Project Studentship
Identification and Determination of Carbon Containing Transient
Species.
Supervisor: Dr. C.M. Western, EPSRC Project Studentship.
Each project will provide excellent training in a wide range of
experimental laser, spectroscopy and vacuum techniques, and data
analysis and simulations. Candidates should be U.K. or E.U. nationals
and have, or expect to obtain, a first or upper second class degree in
chemistry, chemical physics, physics or related discipline.
