A position (BAT IIa/2) for a Ph. D. (doctoral) student is available in the
department for scientific computing of the "Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum fuer
Informationstechnik in Berlin" (ZIB).
The field of activities shall include the following:
- development of models for quantum-classical dynamics and non-adiatic effects
- development and implementation of efficient numerical algorithms
- application to current problems in physical chemistry, in particular
- simulations of ultrafast molecular processes and spectroscopy in
gas phase, in clusters, and in matrices.
The project is part of the German network on "time-dependent phenomena and
methods in
quantum systems of physics and chemistry" (Schwerpunktsprogramm SPP 470 of the
German
research council DFG). The projects are in close cooperation with other
theoretical and
experimental groups both in Germany and abroad (with the possibilty for some
travelling).
Applicants should have completed their undergraduate studies in applied
mathematics,
physics or chemistry (or a German "Diplom") and should have a strong interest in
scientific computing and in chemical physics/ physical chemistry. The opening is
available immediately and the position is limited to three years.
Working at the ZIB offers a very stimulating environment in an interdisciplinary
team
of applied mathematicians, physicists, and chemists, with close connections to
all three
universities of Berlin. A variety of high performance computing facilities is
available,
e. g. massively parallel computing, 3D-visualization, etc . Furthermore, the
city of
Berlin is an fascinating place to live at the heart of Europe.
