The American Mining History Links (12 Dec 199915:35) contains an amazing
range of mining related sites. Some familar points of view including
reworking and reclamation, museums, history and some generally cranky(?)
sites. View with tongue in cheek. Half a bottle of Bulgarian red helped me.
Amongst those listed is the Free Enterprise Health Mine -
http://216.147.22.123/ - which suggests that Radon exposure is a health
benefit. Could things be going full circle? Once radioactive minerals from
Cornwall were marketed on the same basis. Nowadays the Mines Inspectorate
warn us about the hazards of exposure and dumps are monitored lest they
become a public risk.
And the Cornish get everywhere! Order you pasty by post from Michigan -
