This may be so. The shaft is described as being equiped with a double
skipway in 1883 at which date it was down to the 48, sinking having
commenced in about 1880. The drawing of the 'Swinging Cage' is dated but it
is illegible on the photocopy and I'm currently waiting for sight of the
original - that should help determine the sequence of its introduction.
