Hello! I'm a nurse-midwife currently on maternity leave with my fifth
(and final) baby (the first boy). Before a recent move to SanDiego, CA
I was working in Boston in several practices. One was a hospital-based
private practice which is fully owned and operated independently by
midwives and was created to serve the least-served. We took care of
pregnant prisoners, for example. Another was a home-birth practice
owned by a lay midwife. Neither of these made any money, so I also
worked per diem at a large "public" practice at the city hospital and
taught classes at B.U. midwifery education program. Needless to say,
I'm thrilled to be staying home now and enjoying my family. I do plan
to get back to work eventually, though, so I'm glad this list is keeping
me connected. My research interests include: methadone maintenance in
pregnancy, low tech solutions to breastfeeding problems, adoption as a
midwifery issue, the use of herbs in midwifery, and the safety of
home-birth. Sincerely, Terry Jo Bichell, CNM, MPH.
