Graduate Student Fellowship
THE HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENTIFIC / INTELLECTUAL BIOGRAPHY
The Department of Philosophy and Science Studies of Roskilde University,
Denmark, offers a three-year Danish Research Council Graduate Student
Fellowship. The fellowship is designed for a student interested in
pursuing a dissertation in the history and/or philosophy of the genre of
scientific/intellectual biography and its relations to history of
science and/or research ethics.
Students should have a strong background in the humanities (e.g.,
philosophy, history, cultural studies, or literature) and a documented
interest in the history of science and/or science studies.The fellow
will work in a research program on the history of
scientific/intellectual biography. Other projects in the program
include: the history of scientific/intellectual biography from the
antiquity to the present; the relevance of the Plutarchian tradition to
scientific/intellectual biography; and the consequeces of virtue ethics
for scientific biography, history of science and science studies.
The course of graduate study will be designed in consultation with
faculty from the Department of Philosophy and Science Studies in fields
appropriate to the dissertation topic and background of the student.
The fellow is supposed to teach a total of five-six courses at the
undergraduate level (in Danish or English) during the three years,
either in the School of Humanities Undergraduate Program or in the
Philosophy and Science Studies Master's Program, or to engage in similar
relevant work.
The fellowship runs from September 1, 1999 through August 31, 2002, and
is remunerated at 19,508.- DKK (approx. 2950.- USD) per month.
