Dear MCG Members,
Greetings from a new member of the MCG list. By way of introduction, I
am an artist and arts manager with a degree in law, and special
interests in intellectual property issues, business and human
resources/recruitment.
Currently p/t Consultant Director of Castlefield Gallery in Manchester,
I am a Lecturer at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and work with
Positive Solutions as a Recruitment Consultant.
It is in the recruitment role that I am writing today. An exciting
opportunity has opened up for the senior curatorial post at Compton
Verney, the innovative new art museum based in a former country home
near Stratford upon Avon.
After a successful preview season in 1998, which attracted almost 60,000
visitors between Easter and October, the privately funded museum has
closed for the second phase of building and restoration work valued at
over £7m. When it reopens, the emphasis will be on both the quality of
the collection and on widening the audience for the visual arts through
new approaches to display and interpretation.
The appointment of Richard Gray as Director of the museum has created a
vacancy for a Director of Art able to lead the development and care of
the collection. This senior curatorial position is for a person with at
least five years of experience in art galleries; the successful
candidate will reflect that status of the project. Responsibilities
will include all aspects of collection management, display, exhibitions
and both advising and working with the Founder, Peter Moores CBE, on art
selction and acquisition. International travel will be involved. The
purchase fund guaranteed for the period 1999-2001 is £2m.
If you are able to suggest any suitable candidates, or if you are
interested in the post yourself, I would like to hear from you. For a
confidential discussion, please contact me either by e-mail
([log in to unmask]) or by telephone on mobile 0402-421720 or 0161-766 8109.
Should you reach a messaging service, please be sure to leave your
daytime and evening telephone numbers, as well as your terrestrial
address if you wish us to send background information and application
details (these are unlikely to be available on the net).
The salary on offer is c. £30,000 depending on experience. The closing
date for applications is 29th March 1999, with interviews likely to be
held at Compton Verney in the week of 19 April 1999.
Thank you. I look forward to your replies.
Yours sincerely,
Hope London Morris
