MUSEUMS & GALLERIES COMMISSION

Supporting museums at a time of change.

The MGC is a national advisory body which exists to safeguard and
promote Britain's 2,500 museums and galleries.

EDUCATION & AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT ADVISER
Salary circa:  £30,000 
2 Year Fixed Term Contract 
Reference no. EA/989/21

This is a new post, designed to develop new and existing initiatives
within a broad remit. These include increasing access to collections,
the development of new audiences, supporting museum responses to
cultural diversity and social exclusion, and the creation of learning
opportunities in museums of every kind to support lifelong learning. 

You will develop an overview of education and access provision in
museums throughout the UK, monitor and share good practice, and manage
the new Education Challenge Fund for museums.

Educated to at least degree level, you will need significant experience
of museum/arts related education work, excellent interpersonal and
management skills, and the ability to develop and implement policy.

MUSEUMS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (EDUCATION, ACCESS & AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT)
Salary circa:  £23,500
Reference no.  MDOE/989/22

Your role will be to work with the Education & Audience Development
Adviser and to continue a range of MGC museum initiatives, including
disability, education and exhibition, and to contribute to the
development of a coherent MGC strategy towards access issues.

You will need to be educated to degree level, with significant
experience of museum work in these areas and good communication skills.


ASSISTANT ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISER		 
Salary circa:  £20,000
1 Year Fixed Term Contract 
Reference no. AEA/989/24

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the preservation of the
nation's heritage.  Your role will be to assist the Environmental
Adviser, in particular in carrying out assessments of applications from
museums and galleries for Lottery funding, for the Government Indemnity
Scheme and the new Designation Challenge Fund.

You should possess current knowledge of technical advances in the
understanding and management of the museum environment, be
professionally qualified in either conservation science, preventive
conservation or museum studies, and have demonstrable experience in
museum building projects with strong environmental elements.

ASSISTANT MUSEUMS OFFICER (DESIGNATION)	    
Salary circa. £18,000
3 Year Fixed Term Contract			
Reference no. DCF/989/25

We are seeking an experienced administrator with wide-ranging knowledge
of museums and collections to assist with the operation and
administration of the Designation Challenge Fund scheme.  

Ideally educated to degree level, you will need a minimum of three
years' experience in a responsible role, an understanding of capital and
revenue project management, and grant making processes; excellent
interpersonal skills and computer literacy.

POLICY OFFICER	
Salary circa:  £16,500			 
2 Year Fixed Term Contract           
Reference no:  PO/989/23

The Policy Officer will provide support to and gather information for
the MGC's Directorate in their work developing strategy and response to
external policy initiatives, during a period of change.

Ideally educated to degree level, you will need well-developed oral and
written communication skills, good organisational skills, experience of
accessing information resources and of researching and assimilating
material, the ability to work effectively to a variety of deadlines and
a commitment to team working.
