As many of you may be aware for several years there has been an
established Virtual Reality Interest Group which meets bi-monthly in
London. As a delegate at the UK-VRSIG conference at Salford, and
several other North West VR meetings, I have come to realise that, while
there are many practitioners of VR in the North West, there is no
regular event where VR people can meet/ talk and share. To this end I,
with the aid of Prof Bob Stone, would like to propose the formation of a
Manchester Virtual Reality Group (MVRG), to hold regular events for VR
exponents in the North West. Virtual Presence has offered to provide
meeting space and a Web resource at the Sale office, provided there is a
large enough expression of interest from both Business and Academia.

Given adequate interest, we envisage an initial meeting towards the end
of November. Organisation of the group would follow the model of that
pioneered by the LVRG. As such, one of the priorities of the first
meeting would be to elect officers from the attendees of the group to
aid in the running and organisation. Attendance to meetings will be
free.

As a rough guide we see the first meeting comprising a couple of
presentations, one from Industry and one from Academia, outlining VR in
the North West. These would provide tasters of the type of issues to be
presented at subsequent meetings. These could then be followed by full
group discussion about the group's future, direction and organisation.

If you have an interest in this please mail me on the address below. If
you have any ideas please feel free to include them.

We have a strong history of VR research and development in the North
West - 10 years to be exact. With your help we can bring together the
individuals involved to form a much closer community.
