You are rarely called upon to be a leader in the heroic form of a Churchill,
or a Mandela, but your leadership skills and abilities play a vital part,
not only in your own success, but in the success or failure of your
organisation
Aim and objectives
This two day programme examines current leadership issues facing the library
and information manager and identifies ways in which you can develop
practical leadership skills to deal effectively with challenging situations
and capitalise on the strengths of your team to obtain the best performance
possible.

You will leave the programme:
*	with an analysis of your strengths and areas for development in
relation to leadership
*	having developed a vision for the future for your team/service
*	having learned how to vary your leadership style according to
different circumstances
*	equipped to motivate staff and capitalise on the qualities of each
individual team member
*	knowing how to effectively lead your team through change and the
planning process
*	feeling intellectually and physically recharged

In addition you will have:
*	reviewed the current approaches to effective leadership and
identified your leadership style
*	grappled with some of the thorniest issues currently facing LIS
managers
*	received individual feedback on your performance from the programme
tutors
